Sweden, Nato and DCA

Sweden, Nato and DCA

Eva Jonsson ,Nej till Nato – Sweden

Sweden doesn’t have any exceptions regarding nuclear weapons in the DCA agreement. So the USA is free to bring these weapons to Swedish territories.

This has been very much discussed in Sweden between the activists and the social democrats in the parliament through letters just before the decision in June this year. The politicians claimed that Sweden can’t give permission to the US to bring in nuclear weapons, as Sweden has signed The NPT treaty.  But usually the US doesn’t care, it neither denies nor admits that they have nuclear weapons on their submarines, planes etc. Plus it means that it controls these weapons, so they do not act against NPT. Besides, an American base is an American territory, not Swedish.

Ulf Kristerssons, (the current prime minister) declaration that Sweden will accept nuclear weapons to be brought in at wartime, caused much discussion within the social democrats in the parliament, but only resulted in The fact that those of the social democrats who were against The DCA, were absent on the day to vote in the parliament. Swedens and Finlands Nato membership was a ”Quick-fix”, because of the war in Ukraine.  A shock doctrine”. In Sweden the social democrats, who then were in power, were pushed by the weapon industry with threats that they would move their production abroad, if Sweden did not apply for Nato membership.

USA IN SCANDINAVIA

Now when all the Nordic countries belong to Nato, and all have accepted The DCA agreements,  The US ability to coordinate its military capabilities have strengthened. The price our people have to pay  for this is a huge increased risk of war and to become a target for Russian missiles. But also with limited freedom of speech, eroded democracy  and surveillance of the citizens.

The process of Nato membership and US bases (DCA) was characterized by lack of democracy, and transparency.

More than 80 % of the Swedish People didn’t know about the base agreement . I believe that the CIA has infiltrated our societies, and is gaining increased influence over our politicians and media. That’s why the parliament took  a decision that’s not good for the countries. And therefore the media withholds important information and even serves us lies. Each country has its own military complex.

Nato and the EU are preparing war against Russia. Even if Nato is not strong enough to make this possible, The aggressive rhetoric is dangerous and so are the ongoing war exercises near the  Russian border. During the last 20 years the US has abandoned the framework for nuclear arms control – all treaties to avoid nuclear war like the antiballistic missile treaty. In January 2020, the US refused to rule out placing a missile system in Ukraine, which was the main reason why the war in Ukraine broke out.

Russia has stated that the relationship with the Nordic countries depends a lot on which weapon systems The US instals here.

ARCTIC – AN AREA FOR CONFRONTATION

As the ice in the Arctic melts  and its raw material oil , gas minerals etc can be extra tid, The Nordic Region  The Nordic Region has become important to the United States.

Russia has a very long coast towards the part of the Arctic that is ice free for a longer time than Alaska, the part of the Arctic which the US has access to.

The passage between the Arctic and Russia is also very important. Both Russia and the US are increasing their military activity in this area, especially since 2020. Russia to secure its strategically important Base on the Kola Peninsula, where the nuclear armed submarines are located.

The US wants to be able to block The so-called ”GUIK GAP” between Greenland, Iceland and Great Britain , so that Russia cannot bring out its boats to The North Atlantic, while The Russian rearmament aims to secure The passage of the submarines. American ships called for the first time in 30 years at Faroes ports. Strategic bomber landet again at The Keflavik base in Iceland.

In Norway USA gained access to a port in Tromsö for nuclear powered submarines.

PROVOCATIONS IN MURMANSK.

In connection with ”the Nordic response exercise ” in north Scandinavia, on the 24th of March  this year, two American bombers B-B1, which are equipped to carry nuclear weapons and can fly at supersonic speed, flew in direction of Murmansk. Two days later, on the 26th of March, the same type of bombers flew from Norwegian territory towards Murmansk. They were accompanied by a Swedish reconnaissance plane ”KORPEN”. On both occasions Russia sent up a MIG planes, which rejected the provocations.

This information comes from The Russian department of defence, and was published at the Norwegiena website Baltic observer. The large American bombers were stationed at Kallax airbase in Luleå which now is one of the 17 bases in Sweden open to the US. When a Swedish signal plane participated in one of these provocations,  it’s of course to ”share the responsibility with the other Nato countries.

With The same purpose a ”KORPEN” plane from Sweden flew along the entire Finnish border with Russia, to collect military data from the other side. This was coordinated with an American RC-135W plane which  flew back and forth over international waters north of the Kola Peninsula.  This happened on the 22nd of August 2023. (BALTIC OBSERVER)

On the site http://alliansfrihet.se/ Lars-Gunnar Liljestrand writes about the dilemma Denmark has to deal with.

Being a member of Nato since 1949, and with a majority in the parliament who thinks its important to have Americans as an ally. Denmark has joined many of the US wars. In a report from military studies at the institut for Stadskunskap at the University of Copenhagen, the investigation of Denmark’s situation in the Nordic between two superpowers has been made. The condition for a small country like Denmark deals with the reduced opportunities for a small state, to prioritise their own interests, while the foreign and security policy risk increases.

Denmark with territories in the north Atlantic, cannot avoid being involved in this Great power competition, it’s written in this report. Denmark feels the pressure from the US, to participate in war exercises which are not in their interest .For exemple: the marine exercise in the summer 2020 in Barents sea near Russia. Norway chose not to participate, but Denmark did. After being pushed by the US. In The future, there is more to expect of this.

Denmark has through its control over Greenland a possibility to go its own way, if the US doesn’t agree. But like Sweden and Norway , Denmark has reduced its military capacity during many years  which doesn’t strengthen its position in agreements considering the Arctic Region.

It’s an open question whether Denmark’s position to increase its own military defence, will put them in a better position vis a vis USA.

Denmark’s DCA agreement gives US three bases in Denmark, but not at Greenland or Feroes, which probably shows Denmark’s worries of increasing military tensions in the north Atlantic ocean. With 17 bases in Sweden, 15 in Finland and 12 in Norway  (most of them in the north),  the US Will challenge Russia even more.

This has to come to the people’s notice.
